A Mobile Field Shelter On Skids For All Weathers

Our mobile field shelters provide a quick, convenient and flexible shelter for horses and livestock, without the need for planning applications (in most instances) and avoiding expensive groundworks. Protection from wind, rain and snow in winter and shade from the sun in summer, the mobile shelters come complete with skids to allow the building to be towed around a paddock or field by tractor or strong 4x4. Each shelter is manufactured, delivered and installed nationwide, or available as a DIY kit.

A Flexible And Cost-Effective Mobile Horse Shelter

Chart field shelters are well specified as standard and include chains, anchor points, guttering and anti-chew strips around the doorway openings. We line to 4’ high (1.2m) with OSB for rigidity and protection against kicking, and offer the option to choose between standard pressure treated timber skids or galvanised metal skids. As expected of a Chart equestrian building, all mobile field shelters are constructed from sustainably sourced pressure treated timber for longevity, sourced from a select group of approved sawmills.

From a muddy paddock to a sun-drenched field or horse yard for extra stabling in winter, a mobile field shelter is incredibly flexible - one of the most adaptable stabling and storage options we sell.

Do Mobile Field Shelters Need Planning Permission?

A mobile field shelter can often avoid the need for planning permission. Because it sits on skids and is designed to be towed and repositioned rather than fixed permanently to the ground, it is frequently treated differently from a permanent building. This makes a mobile shelter an attractive, flexible option for turnout fields, seasonal grazing and rented land. Conditions do apply around how a mobile building is used and moved, and the rules vary depending on your site, so always check with your local planning authority before you build. Our guide to planning permission for stables and shelters has more detail.

Keeping Your Mobile Field Shelter Secure

Because a mobile field shelter is not fixed to the ground, it is important that it is positioned and secured correctly, particularly on exposed sites. Every Chart mobile field shelter comes with a heavy-duty towing chain and anchor points positioned at either end, and our team will advise on siting and ground anchoring so your shelter stays safe and stable in high winds.

Mobile Or Static Field Shelter?

A mobile field shelter gives you flexibility a static one cannot: no groundworks, the freedom to reposition as grazing and ground conditions change, and the potential to avoid a planning application. If you want permanent shelter fixed on a concrete base, our static field shelters may suit you better. Both are built to the same high timber specification.

Mobile Field Shelter FAQs

Do mobile field shelters need planning permission?

A mobile field shelter can often avoid the need for planning permission, because it sits on skids and is designed to be towed and repositioned rather than fixed to the ground. This makes it popular for turnout fields, seasonal grazing and rented land. Conditions apply and the rules vary depending on your site, so always check with your local planning authority before you build.

How do you stop a mobile field shelter blowing away or moving?

Every Chart mobile field shelter comes with a heavy-duty towing chain and anchor points at either end. On exposed sites it is important the shelter is positioned and ground-anchored correctly, and our team will advise on siting and anchoring so it stays safe and stable in high winds.

How is a mobile field shelter moved?

Mobile field shelters are built on pressure treated timber or galvanised metal skids and supplied with a heavy-duty towing chain. They can be towed around a paddock or field by tractor or a strong 4x4, depending on the terrain.

What can a mobile field shelter be used for?

A mobile field shelter provides protection from wind, rain and snow in winter and shade in summer, and is one of the most adaptable buildings we sell. It can be used for horses and livestock, as extra stabling in winter, or for storing hay, feed or machinery.

How much does a mobile field shelter cost?

Every mobile field shelter is built to order, so the price depends on the size, range and options you choose. Our mobile field shelters start from £2,955 + VAT. You can build your own specification online for a tailored quote.

What is the difference between a mobile and a static field shelter?

A mobile field shelter sits on skids and can be towed and repositioned, avoiding groundworks and often a planning application. A static field shelter is fixed on a concrete base as permanent shelter. Both are built to the same high timber specification.
